“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God” John 1:1. Our story begins with the Word but where it takes us is not yet clear to me.
Along the way, we will look at the use and status of the written and spoken word throughout cultures, eras, and technologies. Eventually, we will reach a pirate and a mouse, Sonny of Sonny and Cher, and how all of this affects ebooks, writers, and publishing. Or is this where the story begins?
The subject of this blog will be ebooks, er-eaders but let me begin by making one thing clear. I am a book lover and technology worker. I will not take sides in the great debate of bits and presses, or ereaders and first editions. However, I will examine the implications of both technologies and their effect on The Word. The goal of this blog will not be to demonize ebooks or lament the loss of great tomes or imprints. The goal will be to examine a shifting business model and identify the benefits and detriments of the onslaught of the Word in Bits.
2018-02-06: This blog is being expanded as part of its resurrection. Though I will still cover ebooks and e-readers, I’ll also focus on translation, localization, machine learning, machine translation, and global business strategy. I’ve spent over 10 years of my life playing different roles in international expansion and I’ll use that experience as a focal point of this blog going forward.
